Thief was "off his head on pot" when he stole alcohol

A THIEF told police he was "off his head on pot" when he stole alcohol from The Commercial Hotel in Boonah.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday, Grant Eric Lines pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Jo Coulston said the 47-year-old went into the cold room and hid two bottles of rum and cola "on his person".

When officers later spoke to Lines about the offence, the father of one said he was "off his head on pot" when stole the booze.

Defence lawyer Robert Cutler said before the police became involved in the incident, Lines had returned to the hotel and paid for the stolen drinks.

Mr Cutler said Lines had a marijuana problem but had taken steps to rehabilitate himself.

Lines was convicted and fined $300.
