The perfect-looking outfit starts with the perfect fit

EVER wondered why some people look fantastic in anything they wear? Tailoring is one of the fashion world's best kept secrets and the best part is anyone can do it.

Tailoring your clothes can make you look and feel a million dollars making you look taller, slimmer and more evenly proportioned.

Whether you are altering your waist, amending the length or reworking your current wardrobe, tailoring will help you breathe new life into old favourites and hang on to quality pieces you don't want to let go of.

Gladstone is stepping up in the fashion stakes with LookSmart Alterations opening in Stockland Gladstone last month.

Pairing up with other fashion retailers in the centre means customers now have an overall package of services.

CEO of LookSmart Alterations National Support Office Ray Bryant said that, in conjunction with local franchisees Anthony and Chantha Sanford, the business was building a relationship in regional Queensland.

"We consider it important that we foster this relationship in the regional areas," he said in regard to what prompted the store opening in Gladstone.

"Response from the public has been truly amazing, in particular our 30-minute pants hemming service. The most popular service has been trouser and pants hemming."

With plenty of formal events on the social calendar coming up, residents have already started taking advantage of LookSmart Alterations' full range of services.

Many people have items in their wardrobe, just sitting there because they have gone out of fashion, that they purchased years ago and love too much to throw out.

LookSmart has the solution; why not recycle the clothes by up-cycling them to this season's fashion styles?

"We have seen a high volume of up-cycling as well in Gladstone, Townsville, Mackay and Cairns because people in these regions understand our level of expertise," Mr Bryant said.

So, once you've worn your ball gown to a black tie function, why not see if LookSmart can restyle your dress to a shorter hemline for your next cocktail party - and voila, two glamorous outfits without breaking the budget.

As for making sure you look your best once your clothes have been tailored to perfection, Mr Bryant suggests that customers hang their garments in a steamy room prior to a formal event rather than steam pressing.

"The steam from the shower relaxes the fabric and allows for natural flow of the garment," he said.

"We do suggest drying cleaning only when required to extend the life of the garment. Certain fabrics are delicate and the chemicals can deteriorate fabrics if dry cleaned too often."
