Hunka hunka burning love! King helps couple tie the knot
IT was a scene straight out of a bridal magazine on Saturday for Toowoomba couple Kartekka Statham and Jay Oliver's wedding, with one interesting addition.
Former world number one Elvis tribute artist Dean Vegas stood at the altar when the bride and groom said "I do" at a picturesque ceremony.
It was a bittersweet moment for bride Kartekka, whose love for the King of Rock and Roll started young.
"It's a bit of fun and we wanted to do something different," she said.
"Jay and I wanted to elope to Las Vegas, but my grandmother said she wanted to see us married so we decided to bring Elvis to us.
"Unfortunately she passed away before we were married."
She said her love for Elvis stemmed from her mother and grandmother, and recalled growing up listening to the King's songs played throughout the house.
"It is a generational thing, but who doesn't love Elvis?" she said.
The wedding was about 12 months in the making, according to the very happy mother of the bride, Denise Statham.
"It's taken us two days to put it all together," she said.
"It's been a wonderful day."
Elvis himself said the ceremony was one to cherish, despite the rainy weather.
"At least it's not hot!" he quipped. "Everyone here has had a great time, it's been fantastic."
Mr and Mrs Stathamoliver will honeymoon in Thailand.
