SOME might see it as an uphill battle, but for council's Tegan McDonald, revitalising our CBD is a very real and exciting project.

The planning services director said the plan to give our CBD a facelift had combined community ideas with research into what has worked in other cities.

And Ms McDonald, a born and bred Gladstone resident, said that was just the beginning.

The council has looked at what neighbouring cities have to offer in their CBDs, and at other revitalisation projects including in Townsville. There's even been some insight into Melbourne's city centre too.

"You can look at bits and pieces that we can replicate, including what they've done with the footpath, or any interesting installations or artworks," she said.

The council has already made steps to help businesses in the CBD by loosening its application processes and fees.
