CHASING 180 to make the grand final, Greg Purdon and his cricket team The Glen were given what was though to be a small test in preparation for the grand final.
It was a tougher test than expected.
Unable to put runs on the board, The Glen were dismissed by Brothers for 134, and Purdon and his teammates were left considering what could have been.
"They made 180, we should have been able to get that," Purdon said.
"It is probably our worst season since I have been playing we haven't missed the final."
This year is a different story though, narrowly edged out by BITS who themselves were beaten.
But Purdon said if 180 was out of reach, then making the grand final was not something the team should be given the opportunity to do.
"Just our batting, we haven't been getting enough runs, we got bowled out cheap by Yaralla, BITS and Brothers," he said.
"I haven't got much myself, the top score since Christmas is 20-something, I got 11 on the weekend."
The end of the year for The Glen is a disappointing reality they may not have considered much, while the finale showed positive signs for Brothers.
But for Purdon, winter is a return to another sport.
"I am off to play soccer for Central in the CQ Premier League," he said.
