Hospital makes the grade

THE Gladstone Hospital quarterly performance report shows that Gladstone Hospital provided 1507 admitted patient episodes of care from April to June, slightly down from the 1526 provided in the same period last year.

There were 115 babies delivered at Gladstone Hospital, down from 137 last year. Gladstone Hospital had 6186 emergency department attendances, an increase of 6.8 per cent from the 5793 emergency department (ED) attendances during June quarter 2009.

The median waiting time for patients admitted to an inpatient bed from the emergency department was three hours and 25 minutes.

Queensland Health’s latest ED data at Gladstone Hospital shows that the average wait for triage Category 1 patients was less than a minute, for Category 5 (the least urgent) was 45 minutes, and across all categories the same timeframe (45 minutes).

Gladstone Hospital admitted 215 patients from the elective surgery waiting list, up from 196 admitted from the list last year. As at July 1, 2010, no patients at Gladstone Hospital were waiting longer than the recommended timeframe for their elective surgery.
