Rockhampton's south side Hungry Jacks runs out of beef

THE burgers are better at the beef capital's south side Hungry Jacks - if you're a vegetarian, or you only eat white meat.

There was a weekend outcry from hungry mouths all over Rockhampton when a number of locals visited the George St takeaway restaurant over the weekend and found they couldn't buy any beef burgers.

A Rockhampton man, who wished not to be named, told The Morning Bulletin he simply wanted a whopper cheese meal after a hard day on the beat.

In wet and rainy conditions, the Rockhampton man drove to the George St Hungry Jacks on Saturday.

He said before he placed his order, through the speaker, the teller told him "I have to tell you we don't have any beef products".

He then asked when beef was back on the menu.

He said the teller told him beef products weren't going to be back on the menu until today.

A Hungry Jacks spokeswoman said the restaurant was briefly unable to cook beef products over the weekend because the motor in the kitchen's exhaust fan was not working.

Hungry Jack's has been the home of the famous flame-grilled Whopper in Australia for more than 40 years.
