EVER wanted to hear songs from The Beatles, Michael Jackson and the Backstreet Boys presented in one show?

Now is your chance. Boys in the Band is heading to Gladstone for an evening which captures five decades of music and the best of boy bands.

The biggest hits from the 50s through to the 90s are performed by a group of young, handsome men.

Pulse chatted to producer and director David Malek ahead of the show on May 16 at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre.

The Gladstone show will be the production's Queensland debut.

David created the phenomenon of Boys in the Band when he saw a Jersey Boys show in London.

It's grown in leaps and bounds, making its way to Queensland after shows in Johannesburg, Victoria and New South Wales.

"We start off in the 50s and take the audience through The Beatles and Jackson 5, right up to the 90s boy bands like Human Nature," he said.

"We have four feature singers who tell the story and four members of the band who play the music."

There are many medleys in the show, something David said the audience really enjoyed.

"One medley could last 10 minutes so you could have 10-15 songs without stopping," he said.

"You think they've reached the climax and then there's another one. It keeps the audience on a real high for a longer period of time.

"I wanted to keep a format that kept up the energy and drove the show."

He said the show appealed to all demographics.

"We have people come from eight to 80," he said.

"We get grandmas bringing their grandchildren who aren't really familiar with Michael Jackson so there's something for everybody."

Boys in the Band is written and directed in Sydney.

The guys range from 21-27.

"The story behind the birth of boy bands links bands more than the play," David said.

"The boys are just themselves telling a story of who was hot and why.

"There's some humour in it, too."

Boys in the Band is on at 8pm on May 16. Tickets are $59 for adults.
