TACKLEWORLD manager Greg O'Reilly has years of experience in the fishing industry and knows the perfect concoction for landing the fish you've always dreamt of.

Mr O'Reilly said the three best baits were pilchards, gar fish and slimy mackerel.

Mr O'Reilly also said to catch reef species, look to fresh squid.

This time of year, blue salmon are in season and the good news is that they take both a lure and fresh bait.

"They're hungry little buggers when they get here so they'll take anything," Mr O'Reilly said.
