Thangool mayor receives OAM

WELL known in the Thangool community, Silvio “Bob” Moschioni received a Medal of the Order of Australia on the Queen’s Birthday.

Banana Shire Council congratulated Mr Moschioni at Wednesday’s meeting.

Councillor Pat Brennan said Mr Moschioni had done a wonderful job mowing and cleaning up the dump and being involved with the racing community at Thangool for 33 years.

He was involved with the Thangool recreation reserve for almost 40 years, and with the Biloela Golf Club and the Biloela Fire Brigade committee.

He was also the fuel agent for Shell at Thangool airstrip and received a community award for recognition of 40 years at the airport without incident.

Mr Moschioni said the only incident he recalled was a minor spill about 25 years ago.

Cr Brennan said Mr Moschioni was known as the mayor of Thangool.

“People appreciate what you’ve done for them,” he said.

“I’m always out there doing something so everybody sees me,” Mr Moschioni said.

“When you belong to a small town, you get a chance to belong to the community.”

To receive an OAM, which was awarded for service worthy of particular recognition, community members need to nominate a person.
