Ten things to do in Gladstone this weekend
IF you're looking for something to do in the Gladstone region this weekend, here are 10 suggestions to get you started.
1. Slide City giant slip 'n' slide
GLADSTONE's first 1000ft long slip 'n' slide event will be held on Sunday.
The giant slip 'n' slide will run down Goondoon St, with the street closed between William St and Flinders Parade from 4am-11pm.
The giant slide, provided by O'Shea's Slide City Australia, has two lanes. It is six metres wide and 315m long - more than three football fields.
The slide will be part of an alcohol-free family fun street party with music, food, market stalls and jumping castles.
Tickets cost $10 for a single slide, $35 for a 90-minute session and $120 for a family value deal, which includes four 90-minute passes that can be used by adults or children.
Children under the age of five won't be allowed to use the giant slide, but there will be a free mini slider for them to enjoy.

The slide will run in a number of sessions from 10am to 5.30pm.
Local pubs and clubs in the area, including the Reef Hotel, Gladstone Yacht Club and MiePlace also will be open and having functions to tie in with the event.
2. Gladstone PCYC markets
THE monthly Gladstone PCYC markets will be held on Sunday as part of the giant slide family fun day.
The markets will be set up at the base of the slide in the car park near East Shores parklands.
There will be variety of stalls including fruit and veg, furniture, food including gluten free to herbal teas, clothing, soy candles and more.
The markets will run from 8am-noon.
3. Katchafire in Gladstone
KATCHAFIRE has become a well-known name in the roots, reggae music scene, and is going to bring its tunes to Gladstone this weekend.
Katchafire is an eight-piece collective of multi-talented songwriters and musicians and has become a staple on the Californian and Pacific Roots scenes.
They will play at the Harvey Road Tavern on Saturday. Doors open at 7.30pm.

4. Women's Wellness Expo
A WOMEN'S Wellness Expo will be held at the Leo Zussino Building at CQUniversity on Sunday from 10am-3pm.
It will feature inspirational guest speakers, fitness and art classes, finance coaching, cooking demonstrations, a fashion parade and pop up shops.
Four Ingredients author Kim McCosker will be in attendance.
5. Smiles and laughs
PACT House Productions will present the play Lovers and Other Strangers at The Live Room, behind Anthony Breed Music at 117 Toolooa St, Gladstone, on Saturday night.
Written by Renee Taylor and Joseph Bologna, Lovers and Other Strangers was a hit on Broadway and was later made into a film.
Pact House is a local youth theatre group. Doors open at 7.30pm for the 8pm show.

6. AFL Capricornia grand final
GLADSTONE Mudcrabs will host the 2015 Capricornia grand final at Clinton Oval for the first time in 11 years on Saturday.
There will be food stalls, coffee van, ice cream van and a jumping castle for the kids.
Matches start at 8.30am, with the A grade grand final at 3.15pm.
Clinton Oval is at the corner of Aerodrome Rd and the Dawson Hwy.
7. Great Yarwun Valley Rally
YARWUN State School's Great Rio Tinto Yarwun Valley Rally will hit the road on Saturday, starting at the CQU Gladstone car park at noon and finishing at the school, where participants can enjoy the school fete.
The event provides an afternoon of family fun chasing clues and rallying around the local area.
Proceeds go to the school to update their educational technology systems.
Cost is $25 per vehicle. Tickets can be purchased from Feedbarn, Yarwun Store, Bendigo Bank Calliope or phone the school on 4971 1111.

8. Salvation Army furniture sale
THE Salvation Army will host a sale featuring 100 house lots of furniture donated by Bechtel.
The sale day will be held from 9am-2pm on Saturday at the back of the Salvation Army church at 198 Goondoon St.
A sausage sizzle and drink stall will be operating during the event.
There is a large range of goods on offer including beds, dining suites, fridges, washing machines, entertainment units and lounge suites.
Cash and eftpos facilities will be available.
9. Discovery Coast Markets
THE Discovery Coast Markets will be held on Sunday at the SES Grounds on Captain Cook Drive between Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.
Browse the arts and crafts, bric-a-brac and fresh produce available to purchase.
The markets are on from 8am to noon.
10. Free movie night
A FREE movie night will be held at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens, Glen Eden, from 6pm on Saturday, featuring Wreck-it Ralph.
The garden movie night is being hosted by Gladstone Regional Council.
Food and drink will be available for purchase.
Those attending should take a blanket or chair for a family night under the stars.
The screening will be cancelled in the event of wet weather.
