Things to do in Gladstone this weekend

1. Mayor's Ball

THE third biennial Mayor's Charity will bring glitz and glamour to Gladstone this Saturday night at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre.

It will also provide a welcome boost for local not-for-profit organisations.

The gala evening, for which more than 400 tickets have been sold, will entail a night of dinner and drinks, music, dancing and fundraising with Gladstone Mayor Gail Sellers.

The theme is Night of Lights.

Dance and quick-change act Soul Mystique will bring its transformation performance to the stage, followed by entertainment by The Corporates.

2. Region's biggest environmental expo

ECOFEST is on at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens, Gladstone from 9am to 3pm on Sunday.

There will be plenty of entertainment for all ages, with children's rides and activities, native animals, guided gardens tours, arts, crafts and food stalls and a Harbour Watch barge trip which provides an educational guide to the Gladstone Harbour.

3. Mental as Anything back in Gladstone

POPULAR band Mental as Anything will place at the Mieplace nightclub on Saturday night.

Doors open at 8pm.

Tickets cost $35 at the door.

4. Old School Car Show

GLADSTONE'S Old School Car Show is having a show on Saturday at the Valley car park at the bottom end of Goondoon St.

It will start at 5pm, with raffles drawn at 7pm.

Participants will be dressing in the same era as their cars.

Money raised will be donated to the family of Hudson Chrio, 2, who suffered a stroke when he was still in the womb and suffers from seizures.

5. Bowls club cent sale

THE Gladstone Bowls Club is holding a cent sale at its clubhouse on Ferris St on Saturday.

Doors open at 11am for a 1pm start. Entry is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children.

There will be great prizes, a cake walk, children's prizes, raffles and a multi draw.

6. Tannum Crab Classic

THE Tannum Sands Crab Classic is back for its sixth year.

On Sunday there will be almost $8000 worth of prizes to be won, the popular crab auction and race, live music by Tom Weber and Alex Matheson Brown and more at the Tannum Sands Hotel.

This year the event will raise money for 11-month-old Kelvin Robb, who has autism and needs a mobility aid. The event starts at 2pm. The bistro will also be open all afternoon.

7. Freediving nationals

THE Australian Freediving Pool Nationals is being held in Gladstone this weekend.

Swims on Saturday will start at 10am and finish at 12pm.

The public is welcome to come and watch some of Australia's best freediver's in action.

Amber Bourke and Patrick Falls will be heading over to the AIDA Pool World Champs and will be looking to do some great swims in lead up to the worlds which start on June 19.

8. Tee off for kindy

TEE off for the Biloela kindy at a fundraising golf day tomorrow at the Biloela Golf Club.

Registrations at 11am for a 12pm start.

The two ball Ambrose game with teams of two is $25 per player, which includes lunch and post game nibbles.

9. Local rugby league

THE Tannum Sands Seagulls and Brothers a grade teams will hit the Marley Brown field on Saturday at 7pm for the round 7 game.
