Ten things to do in Gladstone this weekend
IF you're looking for something to do in the Gladstone region this weekend, here are 10 suggestions to get you started.
1. Boyne Tannum HookUp
THE Boyne Tannum HookUp continues on Saturday and Sunday at Bray Park, Boyne Island and there's plenty to keep the family entertained over the long weekend.
The biggest community-run fishing competition in the southern hemisphere is expecting a great year with 10 boats up for grabs.
Multiple fish will be caught, tagged and released and will then be able to be caught during the competition for prize money.
2. First night of Live in the Lounge
NEW Zealand hip hop artist Che Fu will launch the GECCs newest entertainment venture, Live in the Lounge, on Saturday.
The bar area in the foyer will be transformed with a dance floor, mood lighting, lounges, bar stools and tables and chairs for the event.
Che Fu is a highly respected song writer and producer, and has sold thousands of albums in New Zealand and internationally.
Doors open at 8pm and tickets are $30.

3. Climb Mount Larcom
THE team from ASN has organised a charity climb to be held on Saturday.
The Mount Larcom climb will raise money for men's depression and suicide awareness.
Entry is $20. All profits will be donated to a Gladstone based charity.
Registrations are available by visiting ASN Gladstone on Tank Street.
Supplement information will also be on hand on the day.
The climb will take place from 8am.
4. Baffle Creek Raft Race
THE Baffle Creek Raft Race is back featuring all of the favourite races on Sunday.
The dog's breakfast race will be back, where participants are given limited materials to make and paddle a raft.
For the adults and the serious contenders there is the 3km canoe/kayak marathon, a 2km stand-up paddle board race, and for the really competitive, the design and building of rafts for the main raft race.
There also will be a special kids' raft race this year.
This event is family friendly and is fantastic for people who are competitive, or those who just want to have a bit of fun.
Baffle Beer will be available at the Boat Shed Bar.
All events are free to enter, including the canoe, kayak, stand-up paddle board and raft races.
Local musician Deano will play on the banks of the river while the rafts get ready to race.
All the action will be at the Flat Rock Boat Ramp picnic area from 9am.
5. Duck race
THE Heron Island and RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Duck Race will be held on Sunday as part of the Boyne Tannum HookUp.
First duck over the line will be the winner. Entry is $5 per duck or $25 for a family of six ducks.
First prize is a three-night stay for two people on Heron Island, with meals and ferry transfers.
Racing kicks off at 12.30pm at Bray Park, Boyne Island.
6. Gladstone Open Gold Series AMT tennis
THE 2015 Gladstone Open Gold Series AMT tennis tournament continues at the Gladstone Tennis and Squash Complex in Glenlyon St.
The tournament began on Friday and will run through until Monday.
The singles winner will take home $1200, with the runner-up receiving $600.
There will be specials, A, B and C grade singles and doubles, as well as junior events.
The tournament is a chance to see some of Australia's best battle it out.
Entry is free, and there will be barbecue and bar facilities open all weekend.
7. Reflections of Yesteryear
THE Reflections of Yesteryear is on show at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum.
Using the traditional medium of oil on canvas, artist Marie Green examines the everyday lives of Queenslanders living and working in tough conditions between 1880 and 1980.
The gallery, at the corner of Goondoon and Bramston Sts, is open on Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Entry is free.
8. Boxing on the big screen
THE Cotto vs Geale WBC Middleweight World Championship boxing match will be live on the big screen at Harvey Road Tavern on Sunday.
Rapper Big Sean will perform ringside before the main event when Geale will attempt to cause one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.
Viewing starts at 11.30am.
9. Cold Chisel tribute band
THE Chisel Revived tribute band will play at the Boyne Tannum HookUp on Saturday night.
The band will play a range of classic Chisel hits.
The performance will be held from 7.30-10pm at Bray Park.
10. Learn how to save energy at home
BUNNINGS Warehouse Gladstone will run free DIY workshops on Saturday and Sunday to assist local residents to live more sustainably in the home and garden.
Held to mark World Environment Day, the workshops will focus on quick and easy tips to help save energy around the home.
Team members from Bunnings Warehouse Gladstone will run separate craft workshops on the same days so kids can get crafty using a range of recycled materials.
