Ten things to do in Gladstone this weekend
IF you're looking for something to do in the Gladstone region this weekend, here are 10 suggestions to get you started.
1. Get your skates on
AN ice skating rink will be operating at Kirkwood Road Shopping Centre, Gladstone over the school holidays.
The rink opened on Friday and will remain in place until January 18.
Season passes are available for $100 per person, and six-session passes cost $65.
Single sessions cost $15. Each session goes for one hour.
The rink is open from 9am to 9pm Friday, 9am to 7.30pm Monday to Thursday and Saturday, and at 10.30am and 3pm on Sunday.

2. Drive-in movie night
CQ Starlight Cinemas will host another drive-in movie night at the Gladstone Showgrounds on Saturday.
Frozen (PG) will screen at 6.45pm, followed by Iron Man 3 at 8.45pm.
Cost is $20 per vehicle per movie.
Entry is off Tank St, and gates open 30 minutes before the first movie and 15 minutes before the second.
A snack bar will be operating on site. A working FM car radio is required.
People planning to attend are advised to check the CQ Starlight Cinemas Facebook page, in case the event is cancelled because of bad weather.
3. Crazy Christmas Book Sale
THE Friends of Gladstone Library will host a Crazy Christmas Book Sale at Gladstone Library on Saturday and Sunday.
There will be a wide selection of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs for sale.
Customers can pay what they think the items are worth.
All proceeds raised from the book sale go towards buying resources for the library.
The sale is on from 9am to 4pm on Saturday and 9am to 3pm on Sunday.
4. Thousands of items up for grabs
IF you fancy a drive in the country, Nagoorin Progress Association is running a huge garage sale and auction on Saturday.
There are thousands of items up for grabs including household items, work equipment, collectables, giftware and bric a brac.
The day will start at 8.30am with the garage sale, followed by a Rafferty-style auction starting just before lunch.
On-site bidders will be able to bid on a variety of items including fine furniture, porcelain, pottery, silver, glassware, bronzes, art, jewellery and box lots.
The event will be held at the Nagoorin Community Hall in the Boyne Valley.
5. Bindaree garage sale
THE last Friends of Bindaree Saturday garage sale for 2014 will be held on Saturday from 7am-noon.
Items for sale include clothing, toys, kitchenware, books, linen and furniture.
The garage sale is at Wyndham Ave, Boyne Island.

6. Christmas cent sale
THE QCWA Ambrose Branch will host a monster cent sale, with a Christmas theme, at its hall, 36 Gentle Annie Rd, Ambrose, on Saturday.
Proceeds will be shared between the QCWA State External Appeal (Blaze Aid) and the QCWA State Public Rural Crisis Fund, which is used to assist the victims of any disaster (presently the ongoing Queensland drought).
Hoy games will be played followed by the drawing of a large number of prizes with extras of special draw, lucky door and a Christmas hamper raffle.
Afternoon tea will be served. The doors open at 1pm for a 2pm start and everyone is welcome.
7. Creative Christmas
CREATIVE Gladstone will host its Christmas open day on Saturday from 9am.
There will be stalls and activities, plus a variety of art and craft works that would make perfect Christmas present.
With the gift shop, gallery and stalls, everyone will be able to get handmade, original, one-of-a-kind Christmas gifts for friends and family.
From 6pm onwards, drinks and nibbles will be provided for all members, guests and friends.
Creative Gladstone is at 97 Auckland St, on the corner of William St.
8. Splash Zone first anniversary
SPLASH Zone, Gladstone Regional Council's $2.5m water play park, is celebrating its first anniversary after having showered its 500-litre Big Tipper Bucket on to youngsters for the first time last November.
To mark the milestone, a community fun day is being held on Sunday between 10am and 4pm at the Gladstone Aquatic Centre.
Local swimming clubs will hold fundraising food stalls, or grab a sausage sizzle, coffee or cake.
The Inflatables will be in the 50m pool all day. Normal entry fees will apply.
9. Christmas on Q
CHRISTMAS will be celebrated early this year with Christmas on Q on Saturday.
The event is the perfect way to celebrate with friends and family on the exclusive and secluded Quoin Island.
Tickets include a three-course Christmas buffet, live music and entertainment, lucky door prizes and return boat transfers.
Boats will leave Gladstone at 5pm and 6pm, returning at 11pm and midnight.
Cost is $130 per person.

10. Markets galore
THREE local markets will be held this weekend at Library Square in Gladstone, Agnes Water and Gladstone PCYC.
At the Library Square markets on Saturday, visitors can purchase fresh food and handmade arts and crafts.
Discovery Coast Markets at the SES Grounds between Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy have fresh produce and arts and crafts-related items.
During the school holidays the markets are held every Sunday.
The Gladstone PCYC markets will be held from 8am-noon on Sunday with stalls including craft, fresh produce, gardening, baby goods and more.
