Ten things to do in Gladstone this weekend
IF you're looking for something to do in the Gladstone region this weekend, here are 10 suggestions to get you started.
1. Benaraby State School Country Fair
BENARABY State School's 28th annual Country Fair will held on Sunday.
There will be a cent sale, homemade cakes and candy, market stalls, rides for the kids and vintage cars, as well as live music and entertainment.
Hot food stalls and a licensed bar will operate throughout the day.
The fair will run from 9am to 3pm. Entry is $2 per adult and children are free.
All day ride tickets cost $35.
2. All Bike meet at Benaraby Raceway
AN All Bike race event is being held at Benaraby Raceway, 177 Jono Porter Drive, on Saturday.
Scrutineering will be held from 7.30am-11.30am, with qualifying from 10am-1pm.
Racing will run from 1pm until late.
Gate entry is $20. A bar and canteen will be operating.
3. Gladstone Swap Meet and Car Boot Sale
THE Rotary Club of Gladstone will host its annual Swap Meet and Car Boot Sale at the Calliope River Historical Village, Bruce Hwy, on Saturday.
This event will include new and used car parts, 4WD, motorcycle and truck parts, complete vehicles, memorabilia, model cars, collectables, tools, antiques, plants, clothes, fishing gear, jewellery and furniture.
The event will run from 7am to 3pm.
4. Gladstone Cup Day
IT will be a big day of horse racing and fashion as the Gladstone Turf Club hosts Gladstone Cup Day today.
Tickets to the event cost $15, with children under 16 admitted for free.
Race caller Tony McMahon is excited for the main event because it will be a first in Queensland racing history, with the entire field made up of female jockeys.
Gladstone Turf Club president David Weinhert says it will be a great day for people to witness live horse racing.
Gates open at 11am, with the first race at 1pm and the last at 4.40pm.
5. Virtual orchestra experience
DON'T miss your last chance to experience the state of the art, multimedia installation ACO Virtual at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum.
Saturday is the last chance to see the exhibition.
More than 2000 visitors have taken the opportunity to become immersed in the ACO Virtual cinematic experience, surrounded by the musicians, manipulating what they hear and see through the interactive, touch-screen music stand.
The gallery, at the corner of Goondoon and Bramston Sts, is open from 10am-5pm.
6. Live music at pubs and clubs
THERE is plenty of live music to see around Gladstone this weekend.
TJ Hollis will be at the Young Aus Hotel on Saturday from 7.30-11.30pm, while Medicinal Porpoises will entertain at the Rocky Glen Hotel from 8pm-midnight.
At the Tannum Sands Hotel, Bustard Heads Duo are on from from 8.30pm-12.30am, while at Agnes Water Tavern the Brass Monkeys will be live from 8pm.
On Sunday, The Mangs Duo will be at the Tannum Sands Hotel from 1-5pm, with Eds Son at the Rocky Glen Hotel from 2-6pm.
7. Gladstone PCYC Markets
THE Gladstone PCYC Markets are held on the second Sunday of every month from 8am-noon.
Venue is the PCYC hall in Yarroon St, Gladstone.
There will be variety of stalls including fruit and veg, furniture, food including gluten free to herbal teas, clothing, soy candles and more.
8. Discovery Coast Markets
THE Discovery Coast Markets are on Sunday at the SES Grounds on Captain Cook Drive between Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.
Browse the arts and crafts, bric-a-brac and fresh produce available to purchase.
The markets are on from 8am to noon.
9. Blue Care Garage Sale
BLUE Care Auxiliary will hold its next garage sale at its centre at 2 Margaret St on Saturday from 7am-noon.
Donations of good saleable items can be left at the centre at any time, while arrangements can be made for the pick up of larger items by phoning 4979 4499 and leaving a message.
10. QCWA cent sale
THE QCWA will host a cent sale on Saturday at the CWA Hall in Oaka Lane, Gladstone.
The hall will open at 11.30am for a 1pm start.
