Ten things to do in Gladstone this weekend

1. Superheros rule at roller derby

IT'S all about superheroes on Saturday as Gladstone Roller Derby smashes it with the best of them.

Doors will open at 4.30pm at Gladstone PCYC for the Super Season bout one.

At 5pm Rocky Roller Derby will take on Toowoomba City Rollers Range Renegades in the curtain raiser, followed at 7pm by Gladstone PCYC Roller Derby Haul Stars vs TCR Quad Squad.

There also will be a debut mini-bout for Gladstone's Junior Roller Derby skaters between the bouts.

Food and drinks will be on sale, and there will be markets to check out.

Tickets cost $15 adults and $5 under 12a.

2. Garage sale fundraiser

DELICIO Organics will host a garage sale at 7/97 Hampton Rd, Tannum Sands on Sunday to raise fund for a community in Borneo.

The Tannum to Tembak project is supporting the community to farm tengkawang, a sustainable alternative to palm oil.

Anyone with quality household items they'd like to donate can drop them off between 4-6pm on Saturday, or on the morning of the garage sale.

The garage sale will run from 7am to 2pm.

3. Monster cent sale

THE Gladstone Club of Quota International is holding a cent sale at Gladstone Bowls Club on Saturday.

There will be lucky door prizes, a cake walk, mystery prize and much more.

Doors will open at noon for a 1pm start.

4. Singles meet up

BABY boomer singles have the chance to meet other singles at the Gladstone Yacht Club on Sunday from 1pm.

5. Seniors Week event for everyone

A SENIORS Week event that's open for everybody will be held at the Gladstone Marina on Saturday from 9am to noon.

There will be motorbike rides will be on offer, and the Gladstone Old School Car Club will have their vintage and drift cars on display.

Hot food and drinks will be available. Entry is free.

6. Pet adoption day

FRIENDS of the RSPCA Gladstone will host an adoption day on Sunday.

Cat adoptions will be held from 10am to 1pm at Pams Ct, Beecher.

Dogs can be viewed from Albert Rd, Gladstone, across from the power station, from 9am to noon.

Pets available for adoption can be viewed at www.adoptapet.com.au.

7. Benaraby Raceway Pro Street Shootout

ROUND four of the Pro Street Shootout will be held at Benaraby Raceway on Saturday.

Gates open at 8am, with scrutineering from 9am-1pm, qualifying from 11am-3.30pm and racing from 4-9pm.

Admission is $30 adults, with children under 12 admitted free.

A full bar will be operating and there will be catering on site.

8. Discovery Coast Markets

The Discovery Coast Markets will be held on Sunday at the SES Grounds on Captain Cook Drive between Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.

Browse the arts and crafts, bric-a-brac and fresh produce available to purchase.

The markets are on from 8am to noon.

9. Islamic open day

THE Islamic Society of Gladstone will host an open day on Sunday from 10am to 3pm, at 35 Gladstone-Benaraby Rd, Toolooa.

The day is designed to enhance understanding of Islam as a religion, and improve the relationship and social harmony between the Muslim community and the wider community.

Those attending will have the opportunity to join in Q&A sessions with a guest speaker, enjoy traditional (halal) food, listen to Quranic recitation, try a hijab and ethnic clothing, witness Islamic noon prayer, and enjoy face painting and a jumping castle for the kids.

The program is supported by the Queensland Government.

10. Friends of Bindaree garage sale

THE Friends of Bindaree garage sale will be held at Boyne Island on Saturday from 7am to noon.

There will be a wide range of items for sale including clothes, manchester, books and furniture.
