Ten things to do in Gladstone this weekend

IF you're looking for something to do in the Gladstone region this weekend, here are 10 suggestions to get you started.

1. Boxing live and on the big screen

GLADSTONE Amateur Boxing Club will host its only fundraiser for the year, with the Pacquiso vs Algieri match on the big screen, on Sunday.

There also will be a sparring session not to be missed, with boxers from Gladstone, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Blackwater.

A barbecue lunch will be available and a bar will be operating.

Signed Pacman gloves will be auctioned. Doors open at 10am, and entry is $10.

It's all happening at Daly's Gym, 24 Moura Cres, Gladstone.

2. Gladstone Seafood Festival

THE Gladstone Seafood Festival is back on Sunday at the Gladstone Marina.

The free family event will include a line up of entertainment including Mo Swagger and The Corporates, rides and activities for the kids, face painting, delicious food, beverage and showbag stalls, and a range of market stalls.

Alongside the assortment of fresh seafood will be Mammino's Icecream, wood fired pizza, Elysian Coffee, Dutch Poffertjes, Tasty Street Food and more.

Adults can enjoy cooling off in the licensed bar area with beer, wine and frozen margaritas. 

The event will run from 10am to 5pm.

3. Pete Murray performs live

DON'T miss your chance to see Pete Murray live at Marley Brown Oval on Saturday night.

Support acts are Rockhampton band The Shortfall and Yeppoon boys La Mont.

The concert kicks off at 6.30pm, with Pete performing from 9pm.

Proceedings will wrap up around 11pm. Tickets are $50 at the gate. 

The singer is looking forward to playing in Gladstone, and says fans can expect to hear plenty of his classic hits.

4. Orchids on show

GLADSTONE Orchid and Foliage Society will have a plant display and sales day in front Kmart on Sunday from 8am,  with plants on display as well as for sale.

If you are having a problem with your plants you can go along and get some advice.

5. Drive-in movie night

CQ Starlight Cinemas will host another drive-in movie night in Gladstone on Saturday.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory original version (G) will screen at 6.30pm, followed by The Wedding Singer  (M) at 8.30pm.

The event is being held at the Gladstone Showgrounds, with entry off Tank St.

Gates will be open 30 minutes before the first movie and 15 minutes before the second.

Cost is $20 per vehicle per movie.

There will be a snack bar operating on site, and a working FM car radio is required.

6. One Hit Wonders gymnastics display

GLADSTONE Gymnastics Club will be showcasing acts of acrobatics, dance and talent in their annual display featuring songs throughout the decades of one hit wonders.

The songs are sure to bring back many memories. With gymnasts from ages four to 20, there's sure to be something for everybody.

The event is being held at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre at 10am and 3pm on Sunday.

Tickets cost $25 adults, $20 concession and $15 children.

7. Monster Christmas cent sale

THE Friends of RSPCA Monster Christmas Cent Sale will be held at the Gladstone Bowls Club on Saturday.

Doors open at 11am for a 1pm start.

There will be cake walks and raffles including Christmas puddings, and kids' draws. Tickets are $1.

8. Movie night at Gladstone Aquatic Centre

A MOVIE night for 12-18-year-olds is on at the Gladstone Aquatic Centre on Saturday.

Youth can head to the pool to watch Vampire Academy while relaxing on giant pool inflatables.

The canteen will be open, and entry is at normal pool admission prices.

The movie night will run from 7-9pm.

9. Country crooner in concert

AUSTRALIA'S number one country crooner Brian Letton will perform in the QRI Hall, Off St, Gladstone, from 7.30pm on Saturday.

He will be supported by Queensland-based recording artist Jenny Brosnan.

Brian will perform self penned, real life ballads, his most requested hits and nostalgic favourites.

10. Markets galore

Calliope Arts and Craft market:

A MARKET day will be held at the Calliope RSL Hall, 32 Stirrat St, on Sunday from 2-4pm.

The Calliope Arts and Craft Market showcases home-based businesses and services offered by local people.

There will be stalls by artists, craftspeople, sewers, jewellery makers, bakers, plant growers, art and craft suppliers, children's activities and more.

The wide variety of stalls caters for everyone from children's clothes to cupcakes, and greeting cards to handcrafted jewellery.

Library Square Markets:

Held at Library Square in the heart of Gladstone's CBD, residents and visitors can purchase fresh produce, handmade arts and crafts and much more.

When you're done at the markets, there are a number of restaurants and cafes in the CBD that will tempt your tastebuds.

Discovery Coast Markets:

The Discovery Coast Markets are held on the second and fourth Sunday of each month at the SES Grounds located between Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.

Come and browse the arts and crafts, bric-a-brac and fresh produce available to purchase between 8am and noon.
