Ten things to do in Gladstone this Easter weekend
IF you're looking for something to do in the Gladstone region this weekend, here are 10 suggestions to get you started, on top of all the Gladstone Harbour Festival activities.
1. Gecko Valley Winery birthday
GECKO Valley Winery is celebrating its 16th birthday, with events on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm.
Take time out to enjoy the scenery and great food, while looking at Miranda Manifold's hand crafted designer one-off jewellery collection, and of Central Queensland's talented Margaret Worthington's collection of water colours and other works.
Take the turn-off to the winery 100m past Tondoon Botanical Gardens on Glenlyon Rd.
2. Gladstone Orchid Society Easter display
GLADSTONE Orchid and Foliage Society will have its Easter display at Bill Robertson Toyota, Hanson Rd, Gladstone, on Saturday from 9am-4pm and Sunday from 9am-2pm.
The free display will feature orchids, ferns, foliage and plants to view, as well as orchids and a wide range of plants for sale.
Members of the club, which has operated in Gladstone for 45 years, anticipate this year will be one of their biggest.
3. Patchwork and quilting display
THE Port Curtis Patchwork and Quilting Display will be held in the Community Hub in Buller St, Gladstone from 10am-4pm on Sunday.
There will be a quilt raffle, sales table, and morning and afternoon tea available.
Entry is by gold coin donation.
4. Stamp fair
THE Gladstone and District Philatelic Society Stamp Fair will be held at the Leo Zussino Building at CQUniversity, Bryan Jordan Drive, Gladstone, on Saturday and Sunday.
The fair will be open from 9am-4pm on Saturday and 9am-3pm on Sunday.
The fair will feature stamp dealers, club circuit books, bargain table, free sample bags for children, raffles and lucky door prizes.
A stamp dealer will be available to assess individual stamp collections.
Orders also will be taken for Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race covers.
5. Maritime musuem open
THE Gladstone Maritime Museum will be open from 9am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
You can view displays of model and owner-built boats, as well as the regular museum display.
A sausage sizzle will be held each day between 11am-2pm, with sausages costing $2, and tea and coffee offered for free.
Take the Port Access Rd from Glenlyon St and follow the signs.
6. Entertainment at Harvey Road Tavern
HOUSE of Shem, an award-winning heavyweight roots and reggae band from New Zealand, will play live at Harvey Road Tavern on Saturday night.
The band is on its Harmony Australia tour, and is bringing a host of support acts to make a night to remember.
Tickets are $35 before the night or $40 at the door, and can be bought online here.
The entertainment starts at 7.30pm.
Donavon Frankenreiter will play at the venue on Monday.
The Australian Top 40 favourite will be performing material from his fifth full-length album Start Livin' as well as old fan favourites.
7. Classic car display
GLADSTONE Vintage and Classic Car Club will host a car display on Saturday from 9am-2pm.
It will be at the Feedbarn on the Dawson Hwy, Gladstone.

8. Embroidery display
GLADSTONE Embroiderer's Guild will host a display at Gladstone City Library in Goondoon St on Saturday.
It will run from 10am to 4pm.
A sales table and raffle tickets will be available.
9. Kids' Easter Party
CAPTAIN Creek Community Sport and Recreation Club will host a Kids' Easter Party on Saturday from 3-6pm.
Make your own basket for the Easter egg hunt then let the fun begin.
The event will be held at the club at 111 Murphy Rd, Captains Creek.
10. Sunday session
GLADSTONE Yacht Club will be the place to be on Sunday after the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race.
The yacht club holds a Sunday session every weekend, with live music from 2.30pm.
