Ten gives The Biggest Loser a makeover

CHANNEL 10 has announced the return of its long-running weight-loss show The Biggest Loser.

Host Fiona Faulkiner and original series trainer Shannan Ponton will return in the revamped The Biggest Loser: Transformed.

The new season, which will debut next year, will follow a group of everyday Australians tackling relatable weight issues and undergoing transformations of their bodies and their minds.

Ten said the reimagined show will take the latest advancements in health and fitness to create a goal-driven approach to helping people transform not only how they look, but also how they think and feel.

There will be an increased focus on nutrition, which has been a long-time bugbear for many viewers.

"This is the version of The Biggest Loser I've always dreamed of making, something every Australian can relate to but also empower them to transform their own lives," Ponton said.

Fitness power couple Michelle Bridges and Commando Steve Willis will not be returning to the franchise.

Instead Ponton is joined by new trainer Libby Babet, the founder of Australia's first "entertrainment" group the BUF Girls and the athletic performance studio AGOGA.

"My approach to fitness is to help people create a positive and uplifting association with being fit and active, so it becomes something fun you actually look forward to," Babet said.

"And I believe good nutrition is easy nutrition, you just need to know some basic principles that I can't wait to share."

The new series will commence production later this year.
