Telstra boosts Gladstone mobile speeds with 4GX

GLADSTONE residents now have access to one of the world's fastest mobile networks, with Telstra switching on 4GX in parts of the region on Thursday, bringing faster speeds and extra 4G coverage.

Gladstone is part of the largest activation of 4GX services across Australia, joining more than 600 new towns and suburbs that will be switched on.

Telstra Country Wide area general manager, Central Queensland and Sunshine Coast, Kris Carver, said Gladstone customers in the new coverage areas with compatible devices would be able to instantly pick up the signal and enjoy the new network features.

"We are really excited to be switching on 4GX services in Gladstone, as customers are relying on mobile connectivity more than ever," Mr Carver said.

"The explosion in apps, shift towards mobile video consumption and use of mobiles for almost anything, means demand for connectivity continues to grow strongly.

"The upgraded 4GX network provides improved capacity for Gladstone's burgeoning resource industry."

The introduction of 4GX will free up traditional 4G services for those without a 4GX compatible device.

The 4GX technology pushes typical mobile download speeds up to two to 100Mbps for customers with compatible devices.

4GX compatible areas in Gladstone include Gladstone Central and Barney Point.

Most of the latest smartphones, tablets and mobile broadband devices including Samsung Galaxy 5, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 are 4GX ready.
