ONE of three teenagers standing trial in the US for the shooting death of Australian baseball player Chris Lane in Oklahoma last year has told a court he and his co-accused believed the gun was loaded with blanks.
Three teenagers - James Edwards Junior, Chancey Luna and Michael Jones - are charged with first-degree murder over the death, the ABC has reported.
Lane was shot in the back while he was jogging on a street in the small town of Duncan on August 16 last year
He was in the US on a baseball scholarship at East Central University and was just two weeks away from celebrating his 23rd birthday.
Prior to the shooting he has just returned to the US after a trip to Australia with his American girlfriend, Sarah Harper.
A preliminary hearing is being held ahead of a trial expected later this year.
