Teenager remains in critical condition after dirt bike crash

UPDATE 2:20: AN 18-year-old man remains in a critical condition after a serious dirt bike accident near Proserpine overnight.

Emergency services were called to Spoor Road at Crystal Brook around 7pm after reports two teenagers had suffered serious injuries when the dirt bikes they were riding collided.

It is understood the teenagers crashed into each other while riding at high speed about 6pm near Gregory River, about 148km north of Mackay.

The 18-year-old was airlifted to Townsville Hospital with severe head injuries, while the other teenager, a 16-year-old boy, was airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital.

The 16-year-old sustained serious leg, shoulder, arm and chest injuries and was believed to have lost consciousness after the accident. He is in a serious but stable condition, a hospital spokesperson said this afternoon.

His transfer to Mackay Base Hospital last night marked the 12th task for RACQ CQ Rescue since Monday.
