Teenage boy struck by lightning in Port Stephens

A 15-year-old boy has died after he was struck by lightning at a beach in Port Stephens.

The boy had been surfing with friends and an adult at One Mile Beach, near Anna Bay, when an electrical storm blew over about 5.10pm.

He was about 20 metres out of the water when he was struck by lightning.

Members of the public carried out CPR until paramedics arrived, Acting Inspector Geoff Bos from the Port Stephens Local Area Command said.

A rescue helicopter was also called to the scene.
