Teams have grand plans
SOCCER: Clinton and BITS will do battle in tonight's Gladstone division one men's preliminary final at Clinton Oval.
The BITS team will be hoping to continue its momentum after a thrilling 2-1 win against Biloela Valleys in last week's first semi-final while Clinton needs to make most of another chance after a 3-2 loss to top side Central.
Central will meet the winner of tonight's stoush in the grand final next Saturday night.
Gun Clinton striker Ryan Bellert, who has kicked 13 goals in 12 games this season, said little separates the two teams.
"We had a good training session during the week to run out some soreness and hopefully we'll get the win,” he said.
Clinton and BITS have met on four occasions during the regular season and Clinton holds a 2-1 edge with the first meeting resulting in a draw back on April 22.
"It will be evenly-matched and they have all been really close matches,” Bellert said.
BITS coach Paul Blomfield will look to his team to continue its impressive second half form from last weekend into tonight's final.
"We were switched on in the second half of last week and hoping for that momentum to carry over into this game,” he said.
The BITS mentor added there would be a crucial match-up that could go a long way into deciding the contest along with the addition of midfielder Leon Love.
"The key players will be our centre-back Colby Bidmade and he will be on Ryan Bellert,” Blomfield said.
"Clinton have played a good style of soccer all season and we need to be more direct.
"It will be just whoever takes their chances and hopefully there won't be any penalty shoot-out.”
Meanwhile it will also be a Clinton versus BITS showdown in the division one women which starts from 5pm.
