Taxi fare bolter "should have known better"

WAYNE Magyar says he was quite embarrassed after doing a runner on a taxi driver to avoid the fare.

Magyar, 36, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to fare evasion at 1am on May 16.

Police said Magyar and a mate took a taxi from a hotel but after a disagreement with the driver the other man got out.

Magyar told the driver to stop on the Dawson Highway and fled on foot.

The magistrate told him he was a grown man and should know better.

Fined $100 Magyar must also pay the fare.
