Your photos: Marvellous cake creations
GLADSTONE residents are talented when it comes to cake making and decorating, and they're always happy to share their work.
These photos were posted to The Observer's Facebook page, showing some recent creations.
Here, Hayden Whiting shares details about the Snickers cake he made:
I CREATED this cake for my dad's birthday.
It was inspired by Andrew Bowden and it involved seriously detailed planning and preparation.
It took me seven and a bit hours to get all of the components done (not including the cake which I did on a Friday afternoon).
I designed a cake, which had the aim of replicating the flavours of the Snickers bar (dad's favourite chocolate). So here is my Snickers Cake.
It has four decadent layers of chocolate cake.
In between the layers are thick rings of salted caramel buttercream with salted peanut nougat in the centre to cut the sweetness.
It is then topped with a thin layer of peanut chocolate ganache.
For decoration, there is an avalanche of blow-torched meringue, which is surrounded by a bed of crunchy chocolate soil, chunks of peanut brittle, miniature chocolate caramel tuiles, bittersweet chocolate mousse, Snickers bars, dill, mint and kaffir lime leaves, and vanilla bean salted caramel drip glaze.
And Bec Jones shares the story of a cake she made for her mum:
THIS cake was made for mum's 60th and it was my first attempt at cake decorating with fondant.
I took a day off work to make the two mud cakes, and covered them with fondant.
I had to transport it to Bundaberg then finish placing the flowers that were made a week before.
All went well until we had a storm overnight, and by the time the party came around the fondant was very soft and sliding down the cake.
Thankfully we got some photos before that happened.
