Local fed up with mess

TARA Tucker has cleaned up towns all over Australia as part of the Clean Up Australia Day campaign and has now organised a day for Calliope.

The weekend of September 11 and 12 is the Great Northern Clean Up. Tara has organised a group of 20-30 people to meet at Bunting Park at Calliope at 8am on September 11 to clean up Calliope’s parks for three hours.

“I just get sick of seeing rubbish everywhere and I have chosen areas that don’t get cleaned as often as they could,” Tara said.

“I think we need to teach our kids to create a safe environment and we all live here so we need to clean up our own mess.

“I hope it will make kids aware of not throwing their rubbish on the ground and I’ll provide certificates for all the kids who clean up on the day.”

If Tara can get sufficient numbers on the day she will clean up a second site which will cover the area between Calliope school and the shopping centre.

Anyone who wants to help out can turn up on the day and register. Those under 18 years will need a parent to sign for them.

Tara said she just loves seeing the parks cleaned.

“The little comments I receive from people and the knowledge I can pass on to kids make it all worthwhile,” she said.
