'Lost everything': Tannum school kids help struggling man
IT was a car and tent fire that sparked this unique friendship between Jed Wagner and Col Cartwright.
Jed wanted to help Col get back on his feet after he lost all of his belongings in a car and tent fire in Benaraby last month.
Through an article in The Observer word got to Col about young Jed, who was keen to give him some donations.
Yesterday the pair finally met and Jed handed over donations from his Tannum Sands Primary School classmates and local businesses.
Jed thanked his class, PrepCR at Tannum school for their kind donations by filling up a clothes basket of items.
Donations were also given by Woolworths Boyne Island, Tannum Meats, Tannum Sands, BCF Gladstone.
Mr Cartwright was overwhelmed by the generosity of Gladstone residents and the school students.
"They're coming out of the woodworks," he said. "This morning I went to Bindaree to pick up some clothes and the woman told me this pair is on her," he said.
Jed and his family are no strangers to fundraising.
Every birthday Jed and his sister Milani ask for donations instead of gifts at their parties.
"We would then pick a charity to donate it all to," mum Gloria said.
"Over the years Jed and Milani have donated something like $2000 to charity. Even unwanted toys, clothes and other things get donated."
