Tannum Sands nippers train after carnival is cancelled

TANNUM Sands Surf Lifesaving Club's nippers used Sunday as a training day for next weekend's Wide Bay Capricornia base championships after their carnival was cancelled because of bad weather.

The carnival was expected to attract nippers from around the region but sea conditions were too rough.

Club spokesman Tony Poli said the day was spent going through all the events which will be contested at the championships to be held at Hervey Bay on Saturday and Sunday.

A squad of 66 nippers from Tannum Sands will travel to the event.

Poli said the kids would be defending most of the branch trophies on offer at the championships, and it was expected that they would emerge once again as the top club in the branch, a spot they had occupied for the past two years.

He said it was uncertain whether Sunday's carnival would be re-scheduled.
