Tannum Sands man killed on tracks

A 75-YEAR_OLD man from Tannum Sands died yesterday after being hit by a train north of Gladstone.

The man was struck by a coal train on the line adjacent to the Gladstone – Mt Larcom Road at Aldoga just north of Yarwun.

The incident occurred about 10am, and the highway was not closed as a result of the accident.

Details of exactly what happened remain sketchy, and the coal train's halted position on the tracks in realtion to where the body lay did not give any indication of what took place.

Police and Queensland Ambulance Service personnel attended the scene of the accident.

The Observer contacted Queensland Rail (QR) yesterday for comment but they refused to answer questions about how long the line remained closed after the accident, whether the drivers will receive counselling or whether one of the drivers was a trainee train driver.
