TAFE can help in job change
CHANGING jobs is always a little bit scary but for Melissa Ormsby, a change between her former landscaping job and her new career as a beauty therapist was a huge step.
Central Queensland TAFE led Ms Ormsby to her new role as a beauty therapist and, though she is still three months off her Certificate IV qualification, she has already found employment at Be Pampered Anti Ageing Clinic in Gladstone.
“Previously I worked in landscaping and sheet metal for about five years, however, I have always had an interest in aromatherapy so this seemed the logical next step,” Ms Ormsby said.
She is working in every facet of beauty therapy including manicures, pedicures, waxing, facials, de-ageing treatments and much more.
“The course is great. I’m loving it and I’m really enjoying working in the industry, I am really looking forward to learning how to use the Photo Anti Ageing and Laser medical grade equipment.”
Cheryl Hopkins, owner of Be Pampered, has said her business has always had close links to the TAFE beauty program and she believed there were many opportunities for beauty therapists as it was a career always growing in Australia.
“I personally feel it is a great benefit for the students to experience in-salon work experience and training as part of their learning process,” Ms Hopkins said.
