Swapping protein for pancakes, for cancer

BY 10am refills were needed at Lorna Jane Gladstone's Australia's biggest morning tea.

Manager Zoe Mason and second-in-charge Brianna Sorley said it was a sign that their cancer council fundraiser had been very well received.

Ms Sorley said her idea to do a donation food stall was purely for the community.

"It was something we wanted to do not for the store but for our customers that come in with tales of cancer survival," she said.

"We're all girls in the store and most of us have been affected by cancer in some way."

Ms Mason said as well as a generous donation from Buzz Superfoods, ASN and other organisations, it was the staff who rolled up their sleeves.

"My husband and I stayed up and baked some goodies last night," she said. "A month of planning has gone into this."

Although the team promote a healthy mind and body a few of the goodies catered to a sweet tooth.

"We've got slices and cupcakes because... who doesn't like to indulge a little?," Ms Mason said.

"On the healthy side, anti-inflammatory green tea is on offer and protein balls."

Ms Mason also said that by 9.30am they had to create a makeshift charity donation box because the other one had filled up.

"I don't think anyone said no and even to the last minute people were jumping on board and donating, sometimes without even taking a treat."

The team was charging just a silver coin for a pick at the food but ended up with notes.

They've counted about $200.

"All the money goes directly to the Cancer Council for research," Ms Mason said.

"At this rate we'll definitely do another one in the near future."
