QUEENSLANDERS living in regional cities will be able to watch a live simulcast of the American Ballet Theatre perform their world-class production Swan Lake in Brisbane tonight. (Friday)

Arts Minister Ian Walker, who will watch the simulcast in Maryborough, urged Queenslanders to watch the premiere performance of Swan Lake which is staged at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre in Brisbane.

"We are delighted audiences in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Mackay, Maryborough, Rockhampton and Toowoomba can see this timeless classic performed by one of the world's best ballet companies," he said.

"I have been told that people seeing the simulcast will see more detail than those sitting in Brisbane.

"I am glad I will be able to experience the simulcast first-hand and decide if that is true."

Mr Walker said the American Ballet Theatre was performing as part of the QPAC International Series which is a joint initiative in conjunction with Tourism and Events Queensland.

"Events such as this ensure regional Queenslanders can enjoy international companies who do not usually commit to regional tours," he said.

Time: Live coverage from 7pm with performance to start at 7:30pm

Regional venues include Bundaberg Moncrieff Theatre, Gladstone Entertainment Centre, Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre, Maryborough Brolga Theatre, Rockhampton Pilbeam Theatre and Toowoomba Empire Theatre.
