Swain's Seafood voted the best place for fish and chips

SWAIN'S Seafood and Salad Bar in Toolooa has been voted the best place to get fish and chips in Gladstone.

Observer readers have had their say on our Facebook page, and Swain's got plenty of mentions, clocking up more than 25 mentions out of 62.

Also getting a few votes was Sunvalley Seafoods, Red Prawn and Clinton takeaway on the Dawson Hwy.

Other businesses to get a mention included Tannum Sands Surf Lifesaving Club, MJ's on Boyne, Fordy's Seafood and Yachties.

Catherine Harris commented: "I got some for the first time from that little seafood place at the industrial estate at Boyne last night and it was the best I have eaten in ages. The fish was very nice and fresh, and chips were yummy."

Bek Walker voted for Clinton Takeaway: "Hands down. They do the best battered basa, battered chips, and chips, cheese and gravy."

What makes fish and chips great rather than ordinary?

Experts say fresh oil, well-handled seafood, batter that's not too greasy, and chips that are crisp but not oily and that still taste of potatoes are key.
