Dad wears Daffodil Day pin in honour of daughter Naomi

IAN Barbary's beautiful daughter Naomi was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at just 25 and, sadly, passed away two years later in 2013.

For this year's Daffodil Day on August 22, he is calling on the Mackay community to do something simple to show support for Queenslanders impacted by cancer and wear a pin.

The Mackay resident will don his Daffodil Day pin proudly in honour of Naomi and other Queenslanders who share his heartache of losing a loved one, to show he cares about beating the disease.

"Cancer is hard to understand until it impacts you in some way and turns your life upside down," Mr Barbary said.

"It's a disease that is increasingly becoming more and more common and it can affect you when you least expect it, so it's important we show our support," he said.

"Last Daffodil Day Naomi was in hospital and I brought her a bunch of flowers and a bear to brighten up her room.

"Daffodil Day will continue to be a special reminder of Naomi, who was such a strong woman and always stayed so positive.

"This year, and every year, I'll wear my pin for my daughter."

This year's Daffodil Day will be officially launched in Mackay this morning in a ceremony at the airport.
