Supermarket shoppers keep an eye on prices
GLADSTONE residents are fans of shopping around when it comes to finding a bargain at the supermarket.
We asked our readers if they were loyal to just one supermarket, or if they shopped around for the best bargains, and the majority of respondents shopped around.
Doing a big shop at one supermarket, then getting other items elsewhere as needed was a common theme.
Martin Evans said he went from from bakeries to butchers to other specialty stores, then got the remaining items from supermarkets.
"I wish we had a proper Asian supermarket or butcher because they have the best fresh foods for cheap prices," he said.
Lisa Appleby said she did both.
"My preference is Coles, but if I see specials that are a lot better than where I normally go, I do the rounds and get a bit of my shopping from each shop.
"If they are similar I stick to going to Coles," she said.
Kaddie Mussig was largely driven by price, checking out the junk mail catalogues and buying from different stores.
"The main shop tends to be who has the most good specials at the time," she said.
Convenience is another factor that determines where residents shop, with Annette Felix saying parking, the ease of getting in and out, and the day's schedule all determined which supermarket she visited, with Kirkwood Woolworths being where she mostly went.
Sammy Hackney said she shopped at Drakes IGA at Toolooa because she didn't have a car, and it was close to home.
