Supercar stars keen to drive karts

IT’S out of the heat of Supercar battle and into the fiery cauldron of the Gladstone Kart Track today for four professional V8 drivers.

V8 Supercar drivers Tony D’Alberto, Jack Perkins, Stone Brothers Racing’s Tim Slade and V8 Holden ute series driver Ryal Harris are taking part in the Tag 125 Kart Enduro today.

Slade, who races for Stone Bros racing, got his motorsport start in a kart and is looking forward to the enduro format.

“Being able to race with the pressures of a normal weekend will be great,” he said.

“I haven’t been up here before, so it’s good to get up here and support the event.”

Perkins too is ready to have a bit of fun away from the cutthroat V8 Supercar series.

“It’s bit like grass-roots footy when the footy players talk about it, karting is where you learn how to race and go quickly, so it’s good to get back amongst it,” he said.

The V8 drivers won’t have it all their own way, Perkins said, and the local racers won’t be taken for granted.

“That’s what they do all the time, and they need to be respected because they’re pretty quick karters.”
