The pool has recently been refurbished and now boasts a full automatic timing system allowing the venue to provide reliable times for swimmers to be able to qualify for both state and national events.

With 248 athletes from 25 clubs from the Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast and Capricornia Region in attendance, the Gladstone Gladiators will be represented by 27 of their finest swimmers.

This meet is the final opportunity for swimmers to make qualifying times for the State Championships in Brisbane in three weeks.

Still on a high after last weekend's success at the Liquid Energy carnival, Gladstone Gladiators head coach Tom Fronek is confident his swimmers will continue to maintain a high standard of racing.

"I have had the swimmers focussing on their times this week and race strategies to help them meet their targets," he said.

The swimmers who have made qualifying times for States already are looking to improve their ranking and the others who are very close will be racing hard to make their times in order to qualify.

Swimmers will race not only for qualifying times, but prize money and medals are up for grabs for place getters and Age Champions will be awarded for each age group.

Racing commences today from 6.30pm with the 1500m freestyle, 800m freestyle and 400m Individual Medley.

Racing continues tomorrow and Sunday from 8.30am.
