Kids put final touches on SUNfest's big finale showcase

THURSDAY brings the final workshops and activities of SUNfest's holiday program as kids get in last-minute rehearsals for the big finale on Friday night.

On Wednesday children tried out hockey at SUNfest's Hook in2 Hockey program at Rigby Park, made recycled lanterns at PCYC and explored Awoonga headwaters while learning about air purity, water quality and soil fertility through canoeing, swimming and walking.

Gladstone youths are hitting the karting tracks at Rockhampton's Kenrose Park on Thursday for a fun-filled day, while others are heading to the mini top hat and fascinator workshop at PCYC to learn more about making fashionable head gear.

For those at PCYC, there's a field trip to the Gladstone Aquatic Centre and a good time at Splash Zone and the Summer Reading Club is having more craft sessions at the Boyne and Mt Larcom libraries.

Parents aren't to fear though as holiday programs around the region are continuing right up until school starts in late January.

Bunnings is running more DIY workshops; this weekend's its theme is back-to-school.

Scrapbook Fantasies is also hosting more cardmaking and scrapbooking sessions over the next few weeks.

PCYC has more vacation care activities available including pool and movie excursions, a science day, super hero day and much more.

For weekend family fun go to the local markets: Miriam Vale Lions, Markets in the Park is on Saturday from 7am-noon, Sunday morning brings the Discovery Coast Markets 6am-2pm and the Cedar Galleries Farmers Markets from 8am-2pm.
