WATCH THE VIDEO: More than 70 charges laid after carnage

POLICE charged a total of six people with more than 70 offences on Friday night, many stemming from the carnage on Toowoomba streets during the evening, according to Darling Downs Detective Acting Inspector Paul McCusker.

Det Insp McCuscker praised the work by officers to bring the incidents to a close in a timely manner.

"Since Friday afternoon, Toowoomba Police have been able to refer 73 charges in respect to six individuals, which ranged from very serious offences as outlined, and all relate to burglary offences, unlawful use offences and invade police charges," he told the media yesterday.

Det Insp McCusker deemed the actions of officers during the incidents as "appropriate", considering the dangerous manner in which the car was driven.

"The measures taken by police during this time were appropriate to what had occurred," he said.

"We obviously in these situations had grave concern as to the manner to which the person drove.

"That pursuit at one stage was terminated because of the manner in which (the person) drove the vehicle."

Det Insp McCusker said the POLAIR proved to be invaluable to arresting the suspects, especially after one escaped on foot.

"POLAIR is a resource which will use at every opportunity we can to track stolen vehicles or even to track people we wish to find," he said.

"We got (them) on the roof of the house - in reality, we may not have found (a suspect without POLAIR), because if you're lying flat on a roof, it's harder to spot from the ground."
