Strategic service jets in Monday
STRATEGIC Airlines will jet into Gladstone on Monday morning bringing with it more choice and competition for travellers.
Chief commercial officer Damien Vasta said all the preparations were in place for the first flight, which will leave Brisbane at 6.10am.
“Bookings have been very encouraging and we are still transitioning from our current reservations system to the GDS (global distribution system), which will happen in early May.
Once we have transitioned it will have a positive impact to the volume of passengers that can be booked on our service, such as corporate bookings,” he said.
He said the company had been encouraged by people booking on the Strategic website and that sales would increase once they started flying to and from Gladstone.
“It’s important to give people a choice of provider, product and competition in regards to airfares,” Mr Vasta said.
A number of VIPS will be travelling to Gladstone on the inaugural flight, including former Miss Universe Australia 2007 Kimberley Busteed.
“She’s a local girl, and it’s great that she can be part of the first flight. We also have representatives from Strategic, representatives from the travel industry and the mining community,” he said.
“We’re really excited about being able to start the service, after talking about it and planning, it’s nice to actually start flying,” Mr Vasta said.
He said Strategic would monitor demand and would look at introducing weekend travel. Strategic currently offers four flights a day, Monday to Friday.
