A DARLING Downs storm chaser has captured a  'monster' lightning strike that left a town without power overnight.

The stunning image shows the lighting striking power lines and blowing the transformer on Dungannon Rd, near Clifton on the southern Darling Downs.

The photographer and renowned storm chaser Grant Rolph was just 100 metres from the strike.

"That's not a street light in the pic," he said..
