Masterchef mischief: how the Twitter trolls burn you

DO YOU kiss your mother with that mouth?

This is the question I put to the hundreds of people taking to Twitter and Facebook to bag out the contestants of this year's Masterchef.

I certainly hope none of the contestants are scrolling through the tweets during their R'n'R time. It would certainly be disheartening and in some cases, demoralising.

There were racist calls, attacks on personalities, attacks on looks, attacks on recipes, attacks on efforts, attacks on dishes presented to judges…. Just about anything people could attack in relation to the show's contestants, Tweeters attacked.

It was disgusting.

Yes, some of dishes were not up to scratch.

Yes, some of the recipes were things people wouldn't eat due to individual taste buds.

But who the heck are you? What gives you the right to make such snide comments?

Are you a Masterchef?

The worst hit was Deepali Behar who was attacked on Thursday night for her choice of words trying to describe what type of tofu she was holding.

I certainly wouldn't have known what type of tofu it was, regardless of whether I could touch or taste it.

The dentist with a British accent was then attacked for decision to make dumplings with pork fillet (not fatty enough), then switching to duck and then finally calling dumplings Pot Stickers.

She missed out on being eliminated because Brendan Langfield's pork was still oinking.

But Deepali isn't the only victim of Masterchef Trolls.

Byron Finnerty has been attacked for his good looks, good luck and crying.

But he put everyone in their proper places last night with his Mexican baked eggs and savoury churros, impressing the judges and audience.

Other contestants have also been attacked by the trolls.

As the competition moves along, it can only be hoped that the attacks get less and the praise and positive astonishment becomes the norm.

Ps what is with this "protein" crap? It's called meat people. We've been calling it that for thousands of years, why change it now.
