Stockland expansion to get underway at end of the month
CONSTRUCTION of the $6 million expansion to the Stockland Gladstone Shopping Centre East Mall will begin at the end of the month, Stockland announced on Thursday.
Centre manager Amanda Brookes said the 600sq m expansion would provide an exciting addition for the Big W and Woolworths side of the centre.
"It will enable us to enhance our existing retail offer, whilst updating the visual aspect of the building," Ms Brookes said.
"With the help of Gladstone Regional Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Stockland is pleased to be starting this important project.
"We will carefully manage construction to ensure our shopping centre remains fully operational during the redevelopment."
As announced in December, Stockland also has made another development application to the council for a complete redevelopment of the West Mall, which includes Kmart, Coles and Target Country.
If approved, this would increase the overall centre's retail space to 45,000sq m.
The proposal allows for a food hall and restaurants, two large discount department stores, a new and larger supermarket, specialty shops and 600 additional car parking spaces.
The larger West Mall expansion project is valued at $150 million.
