Stingray found red and dead

THERE'S no better way to enjoy a pupil-free day than to go exploring at the beach. But the last thing the Dredge children expected as they roamed the shores of Barney Point was to come across a red, dead, sting-ray.

A spokesperson from Fisheries Queensland was unable to say what killed the stingray.

"The cause of death of the stingray found washed up at Barney Point is unknown as it would need to be examined.

"There is no evidence that red-spot disease (Epzootic Ulcerative Syndrome) occurs in sharks and stingrays."

If people would like to provide samples of stingrays, please contact Fisheries Queensland on 13 25 23.
