Stepfather admits sexually abusing 13-year-old stepdaughter

A 59-YEAR-OLD man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

The man, who cannot be named, appeared at Ipswich District Court this week.

The court was told the One Mile father was drunk when he went into the girl's room and abused her in late 2013.

Defence barrister Geoff Seaholme said the crime was not premeditated and that his client had no criminal history.

Mr Seaholme said his client had been assessed in consultation with the Department of Child Safety and deemed a low risk of reoffending.

Judge Sarah Bradley said the man's criminal behaviour had had a "devastating" effect on the girl and the rest of the family.

He was sentenced to one year in jail, suspended for three years.
