State hockey championship success for Gladstone

HOCKEY: The Gladstone under-15 girls' hockey team came home with state representative selection honour after a tough four-day competition in Hervey Bay.

Playing in Division 2 of the Queensland under-15 state championship, the Gladstone team won six of seven games and rising star Charli-rose Adams was named Player of Division 2.

Coach Glenn Crosisca was proud of the effort put in by the talented group.

"They all played excellent as a team and over the whole four days were just brilliant," Crosisca said.

"This is a good result for Gladstone hockey and the squad. To gain the six state selections was a great effort as well."

The team dominated from the start and only had one lapse in concentration, in the second half against Toowoomba.

"We were leading until the second half, Charli-rose Adams got an injury and the team struggled with structure and let a couple of goals in and lost 3-2," Crosisca said.

"It's hard to name standout individuals, you could name all the Gladstone players," he said.

"There was Ainsleigh Holmes who played well in the backs and Jaynae Josefski who was left-inside and awesome in defence.

"It's looking good for junior hockey in Gladstone and most of the players will be back for under-15 next year and will only get better from the experience."

The results for the other games were, Brisbane 3 3-2, Cairns 2 2-0, Bundaberg 4-1, Gold Coast 8-0, Brisbane 4 3-0 and Gympie 4-0.

Four girls selected in the under-15 Queensland training squad were Anaya McCafferty, Isabel Nolke, Zarah Nash and Jaynae Josefski.

Two girls selected in the under-16 Queensland training squad were Charli-rose Adams and Jorja Grundy.
