Immigration staff to discuss 457 visas at seminar

SEMINARS on skilled migration will be the focus of a visit by immigration officers to Gladstone on Thursday.

Officers will provide information about employer-sponsored skilled migration options, including the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme, employer and employee rights and obligations under the skilled migration programs and updates on the 457 temporary work visa.

A Department of Immigration and Border Protection spokesman said significant changes to the employer-sponsored skilled visa program had occurred in 2012-13.

"These seminars will provide an overview of these changes, including information about SkillSelect," the spokesman said.

"SkillSelect is an online service that connects Australian employers with potential skilled migrants and streamlines the pathway to permanent residence for people already working in Australia on temporary skilled 457 visas."

The immigration officers will be at the Gladstone Community Advisory Service, 142 Goondoon St, from 5.30-7pm.
