Sporting vouchers program opening soon

GLADSTONE kids will have the opportunity to start 2018 on the right foot and get involved in sport or recreation with Round 11 of the popular Get Started Vouchers program opening next Wednesday.

The vouchers provide up to $150 to help eligible children cover the cost of membership or participation fees at their local sport or recreation club.

Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said the Queensland Government had committed more than $5.6million to Round 11 of the Get Started Vouchers program.

"Last year we saw more than 53,000 vouchers issued, a record number, to Queensland kids keen to get involved in sport,” Mr Butcher said.

"Let's make sure we continue this push to get our kids actively participating in sport and recreation again this year.

"As vouchers are issued on a 'first come, first served' basis, I urge eligible families to apply as soon as the round opens.”

Mr Butcher said the Get Started Vouchers program helped Queensland children whose families could least afford the costs associated with joining a sport or recreation club.

More than 200,000 vouchers have been issued to Queensland families since the program was introduced.
