CROQUET players from Gracemere, Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Gladstone competed against each other at the Gladstone Croquet Club.

Club member Karen Waltham said the unique sport attracted approximately 30 players from up and down the coast.

"The concept involved three different types of croquet and these are golf, association and ricochet," Waltham explained.

"Golf is the simpler format of croquet while association croquet requires a more tactical side."

Introduced by John Riches from South Australia, ricochet is a game for newcomers which teaches the most efficient and basic ideas leading to other forms of croquet.

Yesterday's event marked the start of the annual croquet circuit.
